SECOND CITY SHORTS is a monthly contest for filmmakers to screen a short comedy video inspired by a suggestion.
Shorts are screened for a live, voting audience on the last Friday of every month. Each month’s winner is automatically entered into the end of the year finale which takes place in December. The finale winner receives a cash prize of $1,000 and the winning short will be launched on the Second City Network!
SECOND CITY SHORTS Entry Requirements
- Films must be 2 minutes or less in length
- Follow the theme that changes monthly
- Shorts must abide by Youtube copyright laws
Submission
- There are no submission fees for SECOND CITY SHORTS
- Films must be delivered by 8pm on the Wednesday before the screening
- Preferred format is High Resolution Quicktime
- Deliver a Data File on flash drive, data disc (not playable DVD), or online file transfer service to shorts@secondcity.com
- Films will not be screened or selected if the running length is more than 2 minutes and/ or the film is submitted in the wrong format
- Films can also be mailed or delivered in person, the entrant will be responsible for ALL SHIPPING FEES:

Submission Selection and Cash Prize
- Submissions will be selected by the SECOND CITY SHORTS producers
- Monthly winners are decided by way of the audience members voting
- The film with the most votes from a specific month automatically has their film entered into the December screening of SECOND CITY SHORTS. 12 films will be entered into the December screening, 11 films composed of each months winners from January to November, and one producers selection. The aforementioned 12 films will be screened in no specific order and the winner will be selected by way of an audience vote. The winner is entitled to the $1,000 cash prize on top of their video being featured on THE SECOND CITY NETWORK
- Filmmakers are limited to one entry per month
- If a filmmaker wins more than one month, that month’s winning submission will be awarded to the filmmaker with the second most votes
- If both the first and second place winners have previously won then the winner will be selected by the producers of SECOND CITY SHORTS
