Second City Alumni Mike Myers is one of the funniest people alive -but you already knew that!  Here’s a list of 12 things you might not know about this living legend:

1.) He was hired by The Second City right out of high school… literally!

His last exam was at 9am, his audition was at noon, and he was hired by 3pm. His acceptance into the Toronto Touring Company jump started his career, ultimately earning him a spot on the prestigious “Mainstage” in Chicago.

During an interview with Regis and Kelly, Myers was asked to name the most influential teacher in his life. Myers responded with two; one was a public school teacher he had during his years in the Toronto school system and the other was Del Close, who taught him at The Second City. Myers goes on to say that his time at The Second City proved to be some of the most important years of his life of his life. Del taught him that a true artist “makes things.” “So when you ask me what I do,” said Myers, “I say I make things.”

2.)  He scored a Sudden Death Goal in Soccer Aid for Unicef

Aside from being a successful writer/performer, Mike Myers is also an athlete!  He has played soccer for the Hollywood United Football Club, and also played for the TV charity event Soccer Aid for Unicef alongside Woody Harrelson, Robbie Williams, and Simon Baker.  He successfully shot and scored a sudden death goal to assist in a victory for his team.

3.) His brother Paul is an indie rocker

Paul Myers fronts the band The Gravelberrys, who had a Canadian alternative hit “Wonder Where You Are Tonight”, in the early 1990′s.

4.) He is obsessed with painting Colonel Sanders

Yes, that’s right.  He took oil painting lessons from Damien Loeb.  Damien told Mike to “Paint what you love.  Paint what you know.”  Apparently, he loves fried chicken!

5.) Appeared in Commercial with Fellow SC Alum Gilda Radner

At the ripe age of ten, Myers shared screen time with the legendary comic. Radner played Myers mother in a British Columbia Hydro Electric commercial. The experience influenced his goal to get on Saturday Night Live.

6.) Collaborated with Quentin Tarantino

He recently made a cameo in war epic Inglourious Basterds. As with 54, Myers demonstrated his wide acting range.

7.) Fan of Dungeons and Dragons

In 2006, he participated in Worldwide D&D Game Day. Other celebrity attendees included Vin Diesel and Robin Williams.

8.) Almost Lost His Toe!

When in Fiji in 2008, Myers was involved in a scooter accident. His toe was left badly mangled, but after a year of treatment, a full recovery was made.

9.) He was the star of his own TV show by the age of 20

After performing in The Second City Tour Company, Myers moved to England and formed a comedic partnership with Neil Mullarkey. The pair wrote and performed sketch shows whose popularity spread from London pubs to UK-wide touring to several appearances at the renowned Edinburgh Festival. The two also appeared as ‘The Sound Asleep Club’ on TV-am’s ‘Wide Awake Club’, a morning children’s program:
Eventually the pair moved back to Toronto, where they landed their own Canadian TV series, Mullarkey and Myers.

10.) He appeared on The Iconoclasts with Deepak Chopra

In this clip, Mike meets with author, physician and philosopher Deepak Chopra in New York to consider the importance of humor in one’s individual quest for peace and happiness.

11.) Owns Final Letter Written by George Harrison

The late musician wrote to the Myers in admiration of his work. Mike Myers happens to be a huge fan of The Beatles.

12.) Next Up…Marvin the Martian

He is currently signed on to voice the memorable character in 2011.
